Settings
Why You Would Use This
Section titled “Why You Would Use This”Settings let each user tune how HookBridge looks and when it sends operational alerts.
This is useful for reducing alert noise while keeping important incident signals visible.
Console Workflow
Section titled “Console Workflow”- Open Settings.
- In Display Preferences, set timezone and date format.
- In Notification Preferences, choose enabled alert types.
- Configure thresholds for supported alerts (for example failure rate and pending backlog).
- To get emailed (and optionally posted to Slack) when your usage reaches a limit you choose, turn on usage alerts.
- Save changes.
Usage Alerts
Section titled “Usage Alerts”Usage alerts email you, and can also post to Slack, when your monthly message usage reaches limits you choose.
Usage alerts are off until you turn them on. There are no default limits.
There is no spending cap. Alerts only tell you about your usage. They never stop or limit your messages. On paid plans, everything keeps working past your included messages, and extra messages are billed. On the Free plan, messages are rejected once you reach the plan limit, until the 1st of the next month (UTC). That is how the Free plan works with or without alerts.
Turn On Usage Alerts
Section titled “Turn On Usage Alerts”- Open Settings, then Notification Preferences.
- Tick the Usage limit checkbox. A list of limits appears.
- Add your limits. You can add up to 10. Each limit is a whole number plus a choice of % of plan or messages. Add and remove rows as needed.
- Save changes.
Limit rules:
- Percent limits are whole numbers from 1 to 1000. No decimals. On paid plans, a limit over 100% is a useful early warning about extra charges.
- Message-count limits are whole numbers from 1 to 1,000,000,000.
- Duplicate limits are rejected.
- You can’t save with the box ticked and an empty list.
- Unticking the box keeps your list. Tick it again to bring your limits back.
Settings shows what each percent means for your plan. For example, if your plan included 20,000 messages, 75% = 15,000 messages. These numbers are only an example.
Set Up Slack
Section titled “Set Up Slack”Slack is optional. Each person connects their own Slack webhook, so alerts go to the channel you pick.
- In your Slack workspace, create an Incoming Webhook. Slack explains how in Sending messages using incoming webhooks. Copy the webhook URL.
- In HookBridge, open Settings, then Notification Preferences.
- Paste the URL into the Slack webhook URL box and click Connect. Settings now shows Slack connected.
- Tick Also send to Slack. The limits list appears when email or Slack is on.
- Add your limits, as described in Turn On Usage Alerts. You can’t save with an empty list.
- Save changes.
Email and Slack can each be on or off. You can use Slack without email.
Connect, Remove and Send test work right away. Ticking or unticking Also send to Slack only counts after Save changes. Connecting alone does not turn Slack on.
Click Send test to post a test message to your channel.
Things to know:
- Only URLs that start with
https://hooks.slack.com/services/are accepted. Make sure there is no trailing slash or space. - To use a different webhook, click Remove, then connect the new URL.
- You can only tick Also send to Slack while Slack is connected and working. You can always untick it.
- Remove also turns Slack off.
How Alerts Are Sent
Section titled “How Alerts Are Sent”- If your usage jumps past several limits at once, you get one email, for the highest limit.
- If you have already passed a limit this month, or you turn alerts on mid-month after passing it, that limit won’t email you this month. It starts again next month. Settings shows a note when this applies.
- Percent limits follow your plan. If you upgrade mid-month, each percent now means more messages, and you get an email when your usage reaches the new number. For example, 75% of 20,000 is 15,000; after upgrading to a plan with 40,000 it’s 30,000. Message-count limits stay the same on any plan, so they don’t send again.
- Each email shows your usage numbers and links back to Settings.
- Slack uses the same limits as email.
- If you turn on Slack mid-month after passing a limit, that limit won’t post to Slack this month. It starts again next month.
- If Slack repeatedly says the webhook is gone, for example the webhook or channel was deleted, HookBridge marks Slack as disconnected and emails you (if your email address is confirmed). Settings shows that Slack needs reconnecting. Paste a new webhook URL and click Connect, or click Remove.
Free Plan
Section titled “Free Plan”On the Free plan, a limit above your plan’s limit is rejected, because Free stops at the limit and the alert could never fire.
If you downgrade to Free and an existing limit is above the new plan’s limit, it is kept but won’t fire. Settings shows a note when this applies.
